We all know about techniques and instruments available to retrieve the broken files from the root canals. Similarly, we have a specific instrument to retrive broken burs, periodontal scalers or curettes stuck inside a periodontal pocket.
The specific instrument made for this purpose is known as “PERIOTRIEVERS”.

The original PERIOTRIEVER was invented by Dr. Murray Schwartz, an oral surgeon. Thus they are known as "Schwartz Periotrievers”.

1)The Schwartz Periotrievers are a set of two instruments, double-ended, highly magnetized instruments.
2)As the name suggests, they are designed for the retrieval of broken instrument tips from the periodontal pocket (Periodontal pocket Retriever).
3) Schwartz Periotriever has two tip designs - The long blade is generally used in pockets, and the contra-angled tip is used in furcations.
4) Due to the magentic property of the instrument, it is a very simple procedure to remove the broken instruments from pockets, without requiring any surgical procedure.
