RECALL QUESTIONS

Patient presents with asymmetric corners of mouth, inability to close the eye, disappearance of nasolabial fold and loss of wrinkling of forehead. The patient also presents with hyperacusis, loss of taste in anterior two thirds of tongue, loss of lacrimation, and lesions on the ear. What is the diagnosis and what nerve is affected and in which level is it affected? Ans: Ramsay Hunt syndrome and the facial nerve is affected at the level of geniculate ganglion The strict definition of the Ramsay Hunt syndrome is peripheral facial nerve palsy accompanied by an erythematous vesicular rash on the ear (zoster oticus) or in the mouth. J Ramsay Hunt, who described various clinical presentations of facial paralysis and rash, also recognised other frequent symptoms and signs such as tinnitus, hearing loss, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and nystagmus. Compared with Bell's palsy (facial paralysis without rash), patients with Ramsay Hunt syndrome often have more severe paralysis at onset and are less likely to recover completely. Studies suggest that treatment with prednisone and acyclovir may improve outcome

Which chamber of the heart is palpable in the left fifth intercoastal space?? a Left atriumb Right atriumc Left ventricled Right ventricle Ans: Left VentricleApex Beat. The apex beat or apical impulse is the palpable cardiac impulse farthest away from the sternum and farthest down on the chest wall, usually caused by the LV and located near the midclavicular line (MCL) in the fifth intercostal space. Other areas where pulsations are palpableLeft Lower Sternal Area (Fourth Intercostal Space Near Left Edge of Sternum). Abnormal right ventricular and left atrial movements appear at this location.Left Base (Second Intercostal Space Near the Left Sternum). Abnormal pulmonary artery movements or a palpable P2 appear at this location.Right Base (Second Intercostal Space Near Right Edge of Sternum) and Sternoclavicular Joint. Movements from an ascending aortic aneurysm may become palpable here.

RECALL QUESTIONS

Which of the following is a non essential amino acid? a Histidineb Methioninec Tryptophand Arginine Ans: ArginineArginine is usually considered non essential because, humans can synthesise it de novo from glutamine, glutamate and proline. But it semi essential because the amount that can be synthesized by the body is inadequate to match the demand. It is required in the diet in young but non essential in adults.  Hence arginine could be the appropriate answerEssential amino acids- Those amino acids which cannot be synthesised by the body. Hence they are supplied in the dietSemi essential amino acids- Growing children require them in food, but not adults.Non essential amino acids- Amino acids that can be synthesised in the body but not required in the diet

RECALL QUESTIONS

Name the technique  in which  the part of the root is preserved for implant placement a. Socket shield technique b. Root hemisection c. Ridge preservation d. Bone regeneration Ans: Socket shield technique Socket Shield Technique After extraction of a tooth, loss of supporting bone and apical migration of soft tissues causes unesthetic black triangles after implant placement. This socket shield technique helps prevent bone loss. This method is also known as partial extraction therapy, root membrane technique, and partial root retention. It aims at preserving the buccal two-third of the root in socket so that the periodontium, along with the bundle bone and the buccal bone remains, intact. The buccal bone has bilateral blood supply from the gingiva above and the periodontium below. The root section preserves the periodontal attachment apparatus that includes periodontal ligament (PDL), attachment fibers, vascularization, root cementum, bundle bone, and alveolar bone. The root fragment remains vital and undamaged and prevents the expected postextraction socket remodeling and also supports the buccal/facial tissue
